ZZ Top Shelf ....But

ZZ top put on a great show despite the temperatures in the outdoor arena being in the mid-90s. However, the end of the concert was rather abrupt...they just walked off the stage without saying good night and there were no encores. This facility is not ideal for concerts...the walk from the very distant parking lots is a haul. Security and ushers were not very visible and I had to get people out of my seats twice, the first time at the beginning of the concert and the second time at one of the band change overs...Ann Wilson and Jeff Beck. I will most likely not attend another concert at the Circuit of the Americas since Austin now has the Moody Center a great venue for concerts. This was not a very well attended concert...ZZ Top is still a great band but their following has lessened over the years.

Blown Away by the Incredible Guitar Master Billy Gibbons

My first ZZ Top concert. Blown away by how incredibly talented Billy Gibbons is with the guitar. ZZ Top did indeed play almost exactly 75 minutes to a T (9:00 to 10:15 pm) but played more intense and incredible music than other groups play in over two hours. ZZ Top was not robotic and interacted extremely well with the crowd. The Peabody Theater in Daytona is a GREAT venue with GREAT sound. My friend and I liked 75 minutes of ZZ Top more than the 2 1/2 hour Paul McCartney stadium concert this year in Orlando. I've seen the Stones about sixteen times. ZZ Top had a similar intensity of the Stones but in a different way. If you want to see a true guitar master, see Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top! By coincidence, my neighbor across the street waitressed for ZZ Top several times. She said that they are the nicest guys in the world, especially Billy Gibbons. What a small world!
